Continue ShoppingYour driveway welcomes you home each day, so why not take the time to beautify it? Driveway landscaping often gets overlooked as other parts of the yard take precedence. However, with our tips, you’ll be ready to tackle it like a pro.
In the past, we have shared some landscaping ideas for the area along the driveway. To expand on that, we have some ideas for materials, techniques, and vegetation to help make your driveway more appealing.
What kind of look are you going for? What driveway material complements your home’s architecture and the overall landscaping you have in mind? Be sure to consult with a contractor and/or landscaper to help you decide what choice to make. Whether you use the suggested materials to completely replace your driveway or simply add to it, we can ensure you have access to the products you need.
Some driveways present challenges when it comes to landscaping. Some are too short or long, curvy, or are even carved out of a hill. Many homes in Utah are split-entry and have a driveway that goes downhill to a garage. So how do you prevent erosion that brings debris onto your driveway? Where do you shovel the snow in the winter? Terraces are a great idea for those looking to not just increase curb appeal, but make a driveway more functional, as well. Terraces are essentially just steps dug into a hillside.
If you have a sloping yard that meets up with your driveway, consider having a landscaper create a series of terraces. This will provide space for additional landscaping, and can help keep your driveway clear of soil when it rains. Consider adding rich, black garden soil or mulch to your terraces for flowers or bushes. We think planting in our gravel makes for a unique driveway.
There are a number of plants you can incorporate into your driveway that are safe to drive over. Choices such as sedum and thyme are popular for the visual curb appeal and their hardiness. The look of pea gravel as a bed for vegetation nearly can’t be beaten. Plus, the gravel will act as a mulch to help retain water so you’ll have a long-lasting driveway upgrade.
